Home Birth

Midwifery

What is home birth?

Today's birthing families have many options in maternity care. More and more people are realizing that home birth is not only a safe option, but that the personalized care given by trained homebirth midwives can transform pregnancy, birth, and postpartum time into a more joyful and positive experience.

Empowered Birth Atlanta was founded in 2013 with the goal of empowering every homebirth family to enjoy a safe and uplifting birth experience focused on optimal health, evidence-informed practice, and bonding. We offer global maternity care, hybrid maternity care, and supporting services to enhance the birth experience.

We believe that the birthing person’s relationship to their midwife is an important part of the homebirth experience, so you will get to know your midwife throughout prenatal care and your midwife will get to know you and your family. It is also important for the midwife to know your hopes, wishes, dreams, and fears for the birth. This will enhance the comfort, safety, trust, and ownership of your birth!

Why hire a Midwife?

We consider ourselves as a guidepost through pregnancy—holding space through labor and delivery, and being a help and support throughout the postpartum period. While we are trained birth professionals, we believe YOU know best how to birth this baby. You have everything you need right inside you and we will be there to facilitate, collaborate, and witness to your strength.

Our homebirth midwifery care allows for a more intimate experience with hour-long prenatal visits, in-home postpartum care, and the ability to reach your midwife at all hours. Our pricing and payment schedule make our care an affordable option. Both a midwife and trained assistant will attend your birth!

We provide on-call availability of a midwife throughout your pregnancy for physical, emotional, and spiritual support, nutritional counseling, holistic health suggestions, and referrals. We take the time to get to know each individual client, as well as their unique needs and goals, in order to better support and provide a whole family experience.

Midwifery Model of Care and Shared Decision Making

The Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) describes the Midwifery Model of Care as uniquely nurturing, hands-on care before, during, and after birth because pregnancy and birth are normal life events.

This model includes:

  • monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother/birthing parent throughout the childbearing cycle

  • providing the mother/birthing parent with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

  • minimizing technological interventions and

  • identifying and referring women/birthing people who require obstetrical attention.

Ultimately, the Midwifery Model of Care is one of success because of the unique and individual focus given to each woman before, during, and after birth.

Empowered Birth Atlanta believes that shared decision making is the cornerstone to the health and well-being of both mother and baby. Our time together is spent discussing options available during pregnancy, labor, parenting, and any other topics clients wish to discuss.
